The man, Kelvin Whitehurst, 27, now faces charges in connection with last week’s incident as well as Thursday’s pursuit, and was held by police on $350,000 bond to appear Friday at Superior Court in Derby.

Thursday’s pursuit began just before 1 p.m. after police said an officer tried to pull over Whitehurst, who was driving a gray Ford Taurus, in the area of Division Street in Ansonia.

Whitehurst refused to stop for police vehicles and led the officers on a pursuit on Route 8 southbound,” Ansonia Police Lt. Wayne Williams said in a prepared statement. Whitehurst crashed the Ford into the guardrails near exit 11 and fled the vehicle on foot. Pursuing officers were able to capture Whitehurst, after a foot chase, in the parking lot of Burger King on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton.”

Williams said a search of Whitehurst’s car turned up cocaine and several cell phones.
