Police ‘Progressing’ With School Threat, Bus Investigations In Ansonia

Separate investigations into an anonymous threat targeting Ansonia High School and the shooting of a school bus by a BB gun last week are progressing,” the city’s police chief said Tuesday.

We’re not guaranteeing anything but we’re certainly doing our best to make arrests if we can,” Police Chief Kevin Hale said.

The city’s public schools were closed last Tuesday after police were notified of an anonymous threat of violence made via the After School” smartphone app.

Police believe the threat may have been motivated by bullying.

Schools reopened Wednesday with an increased police presence.

On Friday, a school bus carrying children was hit by a BB or pellet gun about 2 p.m. on North State Street.

The shot broke the window but no one was injured. Police scoured the area but couldn’t find the shooter.

The two incidents put parents writing comments on the Valley Indy’s Facebook page on edge.

Many wondered if the two incidents were connected.

We don’t see any connection whatsoever,” Hale said.

He noted that a tree trimmer was hit by a potshot from a BB gun on nearby Myrtle Avenue in March, one of a string of similar calls in that area.

We’ve had several incidents, three or four in the same area, so we believe it’s unrelated to the school (threat) incident,” Hale said.
