Scouts Thank Ansonia For Camp Help

The Housatonic Council, Boy Scouts of America, thanks the City of Ansonia and the Ansonia Rescue Medical Service for supporting the Scouting program in the Valley by providing medical coverage for the Council’s Cub Scout Day Camp.

The Cub Scout Day Camp served nearly 150 boys from the Valley, including dozens of boys from Ansonia, from July 14 – 25. The boys enjoyed nature study, archery, crafts, BB shooting, sports, fishing, and much more.

The staff members from the Ansonia Rescue Medical Service were highly professional in every way,” said Kevin Bishop, Scout Executive of the Housatonic Council. They attended to the medical needs of the boys as well as the adults, and they ensured that that camp was fully compliant with the youth camp regulations of the State of Connecticut and the standards of the Boy Scouts of America.”

Bishop noted that camp attendance has a measurable impact on retention and advancement in Scouting.

BSA research has proven that boys who attend summer camp will remain in the Scouting program longer and achieve more Scouting advancement than boys who do not attend camp. It’s safe to say that the boys who attend day camp will eventually join Boy Scouting. They have a much greater chance of earning the Eagle Scout award and eventually becoming community leaders.”

He also noted that the support of the City of Ansonia allows the Council to operate the day camp at a cost that allows as many boys as possible to attend.

The Housatonic Council strives to deliver Scouting’s character-building programs to youth at an affordable cost to their families. It is only through the support of community-minded municipalities like the City of Ansonia and organizations like the Ansonia Rescue Medical Service that this is possible.”

Mayor David Cassetti and ARMS Director Jared Heon were especially helpful in securing support for the Cub Day Camp. By supporting Scouting, they’re supporting the future of the Valley for all of us.”
