Seymour Charter Revision Commission Scheduled To Meet On Jan. 27

SEYMOUR – Members of the newly-formed Seymour Charter Revision Commission are scheduled to hold their first meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at Seymour Town Hall.

Members of the public are invited to attend. Keep an eye out on the Seymour town website for an agenda.

The charter is the blueprint for local government, spelling out everything from the length of terms to the responsibilities of a given board or commission.

Members of the charter revision commission will listen to suggestions from officials and residents about changing the charter. The commission also has the ability to make suggestions themselves.

They’ll gather and dissect the suggestions, and then pass on suggested changes to the Seymour Board of Selectpersons, the town’s legislative body.

The commission doesn’t have to suggest changes. Its members could opt to leave the charter as-is.

Members of the charter revision commission include Kevin Atterberry (D), Tom Gardella, (I), Tara Miller (R), John Stelma (D), Richard Peck (R), Naveen Madivala (U) and John Lombardo (R).

The makeup of the commission aligns with the charter rules that a majority of members can’t be from the same political party, according to Seymour Town Attorney Bryan LeClerc.

First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis said the Board of Selectmen is working on a list of suggested changes to send to the commission by Jan. 27.

Any suggested changes to the Seymour Town Charter are ultimately up to Seymour voters.

The last vote on charter changes took place in 2018. Voters approved three of eight suggestions. Click here for more.

In order to get questions on the November 2025 ballot, officials said a final report on the suggested changes would need to be approved by the Selectpersons by September 2025.
