SEYMOUR – On Nov. 6 First Selectwoman Annmarie Drugonis presented the Gittings family with a plaque honoring their son, Justin Gittings, who passed away in September at age 31.
Gittings, along with two fellow scouts from Troop 11, had helped make improvements to the Keith Mitchell Forest as part of their Eagle Scout project in 2012. Gittings had built new benches at a portion of the forest known as Eagle’s Landing.
“Justin left his footprint in Seymour. He was not only a devoted Eagle Scout, but had a magnificent embrace of nature,” Drugonis said.
Drugonis said Eagles Landing will be officially dedicated to Gittings’ memory in the spring.
Gittings graduated from Seymour High School in 2011 and then the Allstate Commercial Driving School in Seymour. He was a driver for R&S Trucking.
Drugonis also presented proclamations to two other Seymour Eagle Scouts Casey and Ethan Elliott for the projects they completed to earn Eagle Scout status that benefited the Seymour Historical Society.
In 2023 Casey built a custom garden shed and Ethan, this past summer, refinished an antique bench and built custom planter boxes.
