A new location of the Boys & Girls Club could open in Seymour’s Community Center on Pine Street by year’s end.
Selectmen on Sept. 3 gave a green light to start about $50,000 in renovation work that needs to be done to the building to accommodate the club.
First Selectman Kurt Miller said during the Selectmen’s meeting he expects between 80 to 100 children participating at the club when it launches in Seymour.
“There is potential to expand down the road, but we’re targeting that hundred for now,” Miller said.
The target date for the club opening is Nov. 1 or Dec. 1, Miller said.
Still to do: hammer out a lease between the town and the club.
Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Shaye Roscoe said Friday (Sept. 6) said she hopes to have an agreement ironed out by the end of September.
“Once we have an agreement, we will open registration immediately,” Roscoe said in an e‑mail.

The new Seymour location for the club has been in the works for months. In July, Selectmen OK’d spending $55,5000 to renovate part of the Community Center with a view to the club becoming a tenant.
Miller said Tuesday the renovations will end up costing about $5,000 less than originally anticipated.
The work will be funded through the state’s Local Capital Improvement (LoCIP) program.
