Two days after arresting a man for allegedly committing a January robbery inside Seymour’s Entertainment Cinemas detectives were back at the movie theater investigating another heist.
Police said in a prepared statement Monday that three masked men armed with guns robbed the business early Thursday (April 24) after “ambushing” an overnight maintenance worker there and locking him in a closet.
The stick-up occurred shortly after midnight, Seymour Police Deputy Chief Paul Satkowski said in the statement.
“Three male perpetrators entered the Entertainment Cinemas wearing masks and ambushed an overnight maintenance worker at gunpoint,” Satkowski said.
The men threatened the maintenance worker and tied his hands behind his back, robbed him of his personal effects, and then locked him in a closet.
“The perpetrators then went to the Manager’s Office where they ransacked and destroyed the office, eventually breaking into the safe,” Satkowski said in a prepared statement. “The perpetrators then stole an undetermined amount of cash from the business safe before exiting the building.”
Eventually the maintenance worker escaped from the closet and ran to a nearby business seeking help, after which police were called.
The man did not suffer any injuries in the robbery, police said.
Cops asked that “anyone who may have been in the general area of the Tri-Town Plaza at the time of the robbery” call the Seymour Police Department Detective Division at 203 – 881-7624, 203 – 881-7638 or by e‑mail at Tips@seymourpolice.org
“One assailant is described as a heavyset Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet, 2 inches tall wearing a beige coat with a winter hat,” Satkowski’s statement said. “The other two assailants are also believed to possibly be Hispanic males. All three perpetrators were bilingual and spoke English and Spanish.”
