Want to see something in Seymour government changed? Let the town’s Charter Revision Commission know, tonight (March 19) at a public hearing at the Seymour Community Center.
The Charter Revision Commission is reviewing the town’s charter to see if parts need changing or updating.
The nine-person commission was appointed by First Selectman Kurt Miller and met for the first time in February.
Proposals from the committee will likely appear on the ballot at the November election, for residents of Seymour to approve or deny.
Some of the changes could just be cleaning up some language, but the charter change process could encompass any changes to the document that guides Seymour’s government processes.
The proposed changes can vary wildly.
In Ansonia, for example, an alderman has proposed a charter change that would give the Board of Aldermen more control over the budget process.
Last year in Oxford, the town proposed a charter change that would have changed the economic development director position from a consultant to an appointed position.
Tonight’s public hearing in Seymour is a first step to allow residents to have a say in the process, and get feedback about issues residents would like to see addressed.
The Charter Revision Commission will accept written and oral comments from residents.
The hearing will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the meeting room at the Seymour Community Center, 20 Pine St.
