A fitness facility focusing on personal attention, affordability, and hospitality.
That is what the co-owners of Balance at Klarides Village in Seymour say they provide their clients.
Co-owners Glenn Hutchinson of Wilton and Bob Virgulak of Norwalk opened Balance Aug. 1 at 1 Klarides Village Drive. It is the former location of Peak Fitness.
A grand opening celebration was held Saturday (Nov. 16). It featured a Touch-A-Truck event for children with a Citizens Engine Company firetruck and a Seymour Ambulance Association vehicle in the parking lot.
Food was available from Diner 67, Spud Stud, Hot Tamale and Karaku, a restaurant next to Balance fitness.
Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce President Bill Purcell was on hand for a ribbon cutting. he said Klarides Village shopping center “is a great engine for growth in the community.”
Purcell said Balance promotes health and wellness, which he said is vital for a happy life.
Deputy First Selectman Nicole Klarides-Ditria welcomed the new facility’s owners.
“We’re very happy to have you in our family’s plaza,” she said. “(Speaking) as a representative of the Klarides family in the community we want you to be here for a long time.”
Klarides-Ditria said she and her sister, state Rep. Themis Klarides, R‑Derby, learned at a young age that “it’s all about family, community, and giving back.”
Hutchinson thanked the Klarides family and said he and Virgulak hope to be a part of the community for years to come. Virgulak said the community has made them feel welcome.
The fitness center has more than 40 full and part-time employees.
Seymour Economic Development Director Fred A. Messore said he was pleased to have “another destination in town for all ages. It supports the town’s efforts to keep people healthier and happier.”
According to a release, Hutchinson spent 25 years in the fitness industry, financing and operating successful fitness operations in Fairfield County.
“Virgulak has worked since 1990 as a personal trainer, working with elite clients throughout the Greater New York City area and installing home gym systems,” the release said.
