Seymour’s Weenie Wagon Off To New Location

Savannah MulSaturday (April 20) marked the final day of business for Carolyn Schumacher’s popular Weenie Wagon at the Seymour Lumber and Supply lot on the corner of Bank and River streets — but she’ll be back at a new location before long.

Schumacher said she’ll be at that location — Whittemore Ice Cream on South Main Street — no later than April 29, after taking time to “revamp” herself and the wagon.

“I’m going to get the wagon power washed, put a new awning on it and get it painted,” Schumacher said. “I’ll be there as fast as I can.”

Schumacher was told in January that she had to find a new location.

She said Saturday she was ready to throw in the towel about two weeks ago before the Whittemore opportunity came up.

“What’s better than a hot dog and ice cream on a hot summer day?” she said.

“It’s really good, it’ll be like a new partnership,” said Jem Koc, the son of Hassan Koc, the owner of Whittemore Ice Cream. “Everyone will enjoy it.”

Schumacher was at the Seymour Lumber site for the past two years after a fire displaced her from her original location in front of Housatonic Wire.

Schumacher said she has been very appreciative for Tom Tkacz at Seymour Lumber and Supply and is thankful for the people at Whittemore Ice Cream for the wagon’s new home.

Savannah MulCarolyn’s loyal customers are just glad she’ll still be around.

John Lepeska and Marian Boffen drove from Naugatuck to get what Boffen said is “the best cheeseburger in the state of Connecticut.”

“We had to come celebrate the last day,” Boffen said. “We’re thrilled about her new location, it’s a beautiful location and bigger lot. She’s a decent, honest person and I can’t wait to see the wagon all shiny and painted.”

Bob Petrillo of Waterbury was working on a construction job in Seymour up the street from Carolyn’s Saturday and went there for lunch with coworkers.

“This was my first meal here and the hot dogs were excellent,” Petrillo said.

He said that when he works in the area again he will make sure to stop for hot dogs at her new location.

Schumacher said she’ll put up a sign on the fence to inform customers about the move.

After one last task.

“I’m going to snap pictures of my area here, because someday those buildings will be gone and it’ll be a nice memory to look back on,” she said.
