RECAP: Shelton Budget Workshop

The Shelton Board of Aldermen met Thursday night to hash out a proposed $110.09 million budget plan for 2010-11.

Among the highlights:

  • Alderman Jack Finn suggested reductions for the police department.

If you’re looking at 100 or so individuals on the Board of Education side possibly being laid off, why are we turing around and considering hiring for the police department?” Finn asked.

Finn suggested allocating more money for the Shelton fire department.

  • The school board’s proposed budget was not touched upon, despite the large number of school supporters in the room.

(Editor’s Note: In the chat, Finn is quoted as questioning the number of positions the police department is planning to fill compared to the number of slots budgeted for. Chief Joel Hurliman, who was not at the meeting to respond, later said the department plans to fill all budgeted positions.)
