Shelton Police Make Third Arrest In March Assault

Shelton police said Thursday that a third suspect has been charged in connection with a brutal beating that sent a local man to Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition last month.

The suspect, Jason Terry, 25, of Howe Avenue, was charged with first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault. Two other men — Daniel Zeleznik and Andrew O’Connell — face identical charges in the case.

Police said Terry had been hiding from authorities but was located Thursday at an apartment in Ansonia.

Terry was arrested without incident by Shelton and Ansonia police.

Police held Terry in lieu of $250,000 bond. If he cannot post bail, he will be arraigned Monday in Superior Court in Derby.

Although no more arrests are expected police detectives continue to investigate the case,” a press release issued by police Thursday says.

The assault took place near the intersection of Kneen Street and Coram Avenue about midnight on March 18, according to a police affidavit filed at Superior Court in Derby.

The affidavit says the victim of the assault, Jason Chevrier, 32, got into an argument with Zeleznik and O’Connell outside a Howe Avenue apartment building the night of St. Patrick’s Day.

Witnesses told police Chevrier picked up a two-by-four he found nearby and starting swinging it while claiming he would call the Latin Kings” to fight those with whom he was arguing.

But when the men then came out of the building with weapons, Chevrier dropped the two-by-four and ran away, up Kneen Street.

The group — Terry arrived on the scene after the argument began, according to the affidavit — caught up with him near the intersection of Kneen Street and Coram Avenue where he was eventually found suffering from serious injuries.
