ANSONIA — Posts on social media falsely reported that a student brought a gun to Ansonia Middle School, officials said in a prepared statement.
“While there are posts on social media reporting there was a gun in the Ansonia Middle School, that information is incorrect and we ask that people refrain posting second hand unverified information,” the statement, released at about 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, said.
There will be an increased police presence at the middle school today (Friday, Sept. 6) because of the false reports.
“Out of an abundance of caution, and with the safety of our students and staff being our top priority, there will be an increased police presence at Ansonia Middle School. We want to reassure the community that this precautionary measure is being taken to provide an added layer of security and to foster a safe and positive learning environment,” according to the statement.
An investigation into the posts is underway.
