Nearly $1 million in federal stimulus money will finally reach Seymour roads this spring. It will be used to repair Derby Avenue.
The town will be rebuilding and resurfacing the road from the Route 8 south exit ramp (roughly 748 Derby Ave.) to (roughly) Tri-Town Plaza.
The town is using federal grant administered through the state Department of Transportation and facilitated by the Valley Council of Governments.
The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to approved the final step of the project at its Feb. 15 meeting.
“The roadwork will hopefully start shortly after April, when the asphalt plants open,” First Selectman Paul Roy said.
The road was selected several years ago, by the administration of then-First Selectman Robert Koskelowski.
“We are just carrying through with the project,” Roy said.
The work should take two months. The project does not involve drainage repairs. Roughly eight inches of asphalt will be removed, ground, sealed and striped.
It was all part of the American Recovery Reinvestment Act, which was intended to create jobs and encourage investment and consumer spending during the recession.
The company that will do the work is Cocchiola Paving of Oakville.
