Ansonia police are investigating a suspicious car fire reported Monday evening in Linnett Park on Crowley Street.
A stolen 2012 Nissan Altima was “fully engulfed” in flames as firefighters responded to the call at 6:09 p.m. It had been reported stolen from Fifth Street earlier in the day.
Witnesses told police the Altima pulled into a parking lot while being “operated erratically,” according to a statement from Ansonia Police Lt. Andrew Cota.
People heard a loud bang, then saw the car was on fire.
An unspecified number of people were seen running from the Nissan, according to police.
Firefighters extinguished the flames. Investigators were on the scene for three hours. The fire marshal and police deemed it “suspicious.”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ansonia Detective Division at (203) 736‑2040.
The vehicle was a total loss, police said.
