In a prepared statement, police said that the detective saw 20-year-old Deion Lovett driving around downtown Shelton about 4 p.m. “with the rear door to the vehicle wide open.”
The detective tried to stop Lovett, police said, but he sped off instead, leading the police officer on a chase into Derby.
The pursuit ended when Lovett eventually stopped on Route 34 in east Derby.

Police charged Lovett with first-degree larceny, engaging police in pursuit, and three counts of risk of injury to a minor.
Cops also charged one of the juveniles with first-degree larceny.
