Vandalism Spree, Again, In Ansonia

Ansonia was hit with a rash of vandalism overnight Wednesday, as someone shot a number of vehicles with a BB gun.

The BBs damaged several cars — possibly a dozen — in the Hilltop section of Ansonia, according to police Chief Kevin Hale.

On the west side of the city, police said someone ripped the side view mirrors off of about six vehicles.

The vandalism comes precisely a year after a similar vandalism spree in the city last year.

Finally, someone broke into the Ansonia Nature Center between 3 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and stole a donation box. This is the second time someone has broken into the nature center to steal the donation box.

After the first theft in March 2010, the Valley Community Foundation donated $250 to purchase a new box.

Police are investigating the crimes.

Hale said criminal mischief locally tends to happen in cycles. Police are keeping an eye open to see if surrounding towns are experiencing similar acts of vandalism.
