The body found in the wreckage of a garage fire on Davis Road has been positively identified as Tania Sapko, a lawyer representing her family said Monday (Sept. 9).
Sapko’s remains were discovered by firefighters after they put out a blaze that destroyed her garage and damaged her home July 31.
Officials said DNA tests were needed to positively identify the remains as those of Sapko.
Fred Stanek, a lawyer representing Sapko’s family, said Monday via e‑mail that Sapko had been identified.
“The Office of Chief Medical Examiner of the State of Connecticut has identified Ms. Sapko’s body,” Stanek wrote. “Her body was released to the family through the funeral director late last week.”
An autopsy determined the cause of Sapko’s death to be smoke inhalation.
A funeral service will be held for Sapko Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St.
