The Ansonia Cultural Commission’s annual house decorating contest attracted 21 entries from throughout the city.
The judges declared the citywide winner to be John and Ann Marie Checkley’s house at 209 Wakelee Ave.
The Checkleys decked out their yard, pictured, with a lane of candy canes, snowmen, reindeer, garland, lights, and a bright “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” spelled out in glowing red and green letters.

The commission also declared winners from each of the city’s seven wards.
They were (according to the city’s Facebook page):
- Ward 1 David Harvey & Edward Miklos 16 – 18 Sixth St.
- Ward 2 Janet and Christopher Waugh 87 Prospect St.
- Ward 3 Don Anderson 96 Myrtle Ave.
- Ward 4 Charters Hose 4 Murray St.
- Ward 5 Eric & Veronica Feliciano 195 Howard Ave.
- Ward 6 Kamil Steczkowski 28 Mountain View Road
- Ward 7 Robert Myernick and Kathleen Dorsey 7 Birchwood Drive
Al the winners were invited to attend the Board of Aldermen’s next meeting Jan. 13 to receive a certificate of recognition and a gift certificate from local merchants.
