Wreaths Across America Campaign By CWV Post 1562

DERBY — St. Michael’s CWV Post 1562 is seeking sponsorships for the Wreaths Across America campaign to honor veterans this holiday season.

Post veterans and members will lay wreaths at the graves of veterans during a nationwide remembrance ceremony at St. Michael’s Cemetery on Dec. 14. The ceremony begins at noon at the cemetery, located on Silver Hill Road in Ansonia. The public is invited to attend.

Post Commander Tom Voytek said the annual wreath sponsorship and ceremony offers an opportunity to memorialize a deceased veteran or honor a living veteran with the purchase of holiday wreaths.

It’s a beautiful way to recognize their service and sacrifice,” Voytek said.
The Post has a target goal to purchase 870 wreaths, which Voytek admits is a tall order.

It’ll mean getting wide support across the Valley. We know how generous the community is, so we’ll do our best to reach our goal,” Voytek said.

Post Veteran and Director Susan Stankye is leading this year’s Wreaths Across America campaign. Stankye and the team of volunteers have posted signs around the Valley promoting Wreaths Across America, hoping to capture the hearts and support of residents.

We know that our communities support veterans, and we appreciate the way they always come through for this important recognition,” she said.

Local businesses, community organizations and residents are encouraged to support the campaign.
