Police Probe Drug Complaint At Derby Middle School

Police are investigating a drug complaint involving a staff member of the Derby Middle School, the Valley Independent Sentinel has learned.

Police were called to the middle school Thursday morning (Sept. 8), according to Derby Police Chief Gerald Narowski.

At 9:25 this morning, police were dispatched to 10 Nutmeg Ave. for a report of a drug-narcotic violation,” Narowski said. It was a complaint that a staff member was in possession of narcotics on school property.”

No arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing, Narowski said.

I am going to reserve further comment until the conclusion of the investigation,” the chief said.

Derby School Superintendent Stephen Tracy classified the incident as a personnel issue.

The Valley Independent Sentinel has the name of the staff member, but opted not to publish it Thursday.

Tracy said the staff member will not be in school tomorrow and he is not expected to be in school for awhile.”

Beyond that I’m not at liberty to say anything,” Tracy said.

Efforts to reach the staff member by the Valley Indy Thursday were unsuccessful.
