UPDATE: Repo Man Shot In Ansonia

UPDATE: Police identified the victim Thursday morning as Christopher Davis, 35, of Hamden.

Police Thursday also identified the shooter as Efrain Rodriguez, 30. He was charged with first-degree assault, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal violation of a protective order. He is scheduled to appear in Derby court today (March 4).

Sabrina Vazquez, 30, was charged with interfering with a police officer. She was released on a promise to appear in court March 15.

The shooting took place outside the residence where the couple lives. Rodriguez was under a court order to stay away from Vazquez, police said.

The original article follows:

A repo man trying to take possession of a minivan was shot Wednesday afternoon, with the bullet burrowing straight through his kneecap and out the other side, police said.

The victim, who’s name was not released, was repossessing the vehicle at a residence at about 1 p.m. on Reichelt Terrace when a man came out and began arguing about payments, then fired a shot, Lt. Andrew Cota said.

Upon arrival we found the victim there. He had a bullet hole in his left leg, right in the knee joint — in one side and out the other,” Cota said.

The shooting was point blank.

We think they were within four to five feet of each other. They were very close.”

The repo man was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. He identified the man as the shooter, police said.

However, as police started to investigate, the couple living in the residence — a man and a woman — both took credit for the shooting.

The female says I did it.’ The male says No, I did it.’ They’re trying to cover each other, but the repo man said No, the man shot me,’” Cota said.

As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, police were sorting through the stories and figuring out what criminal charges to file.

Cota said the names of anyone charged will be released Thursday morning.
