A 22-year-old Seymour man is still in the intensive care unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital three days after suffering life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash.
Erik Turksi, a 2005 Seymour High School graduate, broke his femur bone Friday afternoon after losing control of his Harley Davidson on a Route 67 bridge. He slid on the road, hit a concrete barrier and fell about 15 feet into the water below.
Police said he is still listed in critical condition.
Police believe speed played a role in the crash, but are still investigating, Lt. Paul J. Satkowski said.
“It’s an open, ongoing investigation,” Satkowski said.
Sgt. David Parratt is reconstructing the crash in an effort to determine precisely what happened. The investigation is expected to take several weeks, at least.
“Preliminary, we think speed was a factor, but Sgt. Parratt will be looking at all aspects of what may have transpired, based on witness statements and based on what he gathered at the scene as evidence,” Satowski said.
Turski ran track and played football in high school. He is also a record-breaking weightlifter. Read more about Turski here.
