Cabrera: I’ll Fight In Hartford To Improve The Lives Of Families

Press play to watch a video interview with Jorge Cabrera, a union official from Hamden who is running as a Democrat for the 17th State Senate District seat.

That seat is currently held by Sen. George Logan, R‑Ansonia, to whom Cabrera lost by just 77 votes two years ago.

While Cabrera is his party’s officially endorsed candidate, he isn’t the only Democrat running.

Justin Farmer, a politician activist” from Hamden’s Legislative Council, is challenging Cabrera on a Democratic primary Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The 17th state Senate district includes Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Hamden, Naugatuck and Woodbridge.

(Note: The Valley Indy will publish a guide to Tuesday’s primary on Saturday morning)

In this interview, Cabrera talks about paying a $750 fine 20 years ago for allegedly improperly handling an absentee ballot in Bridgeport, and why he’s switched political parties over the years.

Cabrera then talks about growing up in Bridgeport, and how going to Quinnipiac University steered him toward politics — and a wife.

Cabrera then narrates a career that took him from a legislative aid in Hartford to an important union official who says he’ll fight for families if elected.
