First I want to say that I am PROUD to live in Ansonia.

I am proud to have the opportunity to serve my constituents for the past 14 years. I am proud to work with Jim Della Volpe as mayor. I am proud to have sent my children through the Ansonia school system. I am proud that they are all in college and doing well. I am proud that the Ansonia school system has prepared my children to meet their future college years head on!

Alderman Candidate: Ansonia Should Have Phased In Reval

The 2013 budget saw a 13-point tax increase for Ansonia taxpayers and led to the ninth highest tax rate in the entire state of Connecticut. Hard-working families and seniors were hit overnight with one of the largest property tax increases in Ansonia’s history; a devastating blow for residents already struggling to make ends meet.

As Mayor of Ansonia, Jim Della Volpe has some explaining to do. He had the ability to phase in the 13 point mill rate increase over five years. The phase-in option was offered by legislators in Hartford as a way to ease the burden on taxpayers going through a rough revaluation year.

Alderman Candidate: Fact Check Needed On Charter Revision Fact Check

I’m sorry Beth, but as a member of the Charter Revision Commission, I need to point out the truth.

The truth is that Democrats on the Charter Revision Commission voted unanimously against the Responsible Referendum revision (which gives residents a say on the city budget) not once, but twice.

It’s all in the minutes.

Town Clerk Candidate: Fact-Check Needed On Charter Revision Proposal

I am a proud, lifelong Ansonian. In 1895 my great-grandfather served on the first Board of Aldermen. In 1943 my father, at the age of 21, was the youngest person ever to serve as an alderman and in 1985 my late brother was elected an alderman and due to his confinement to a wheelchair, was responsible for our City Hall becoming handicapped-accessible.

My grandchildren are sixth-generation Ansonians and I take my responsibility as a civil servant personally. I am honored to be on the ballot as the Democratic candidate for Town/City Clerk, a time-honored and vital part of local government who provides the professional link between the citizens and local governing bodies and agencies of government.

Alderman Candidate: Time For Change In Ansonia

What kind of Mayor do we need now — at this time of challenge and opportunity?

The answer seems obvious: we want someone strong; we want someone who shares our values; someone who recognizes our challenges and is willing to deal with them head on; and someone who will get the job done. We want someone who will not only lead, but lead us in the right direction.

Let’s put partisan politics aside for a moment.

Republicans and Democrats on the Ansonia Board of Aldermen are united in their support of a broad range of referendum initiatives that will appear on the ballot next week.

These initiatives are designed to allow our city to move forward with critical improvements while keeping taxes under control.
