Every election cycle, the opposing candidates claim that they will “end avoidable” lawsuits and that “mishandling of lawsuits costs the city millions of dollars.” The residents of the City of Derby must know that before any lawsuit is resolved, the Board of Aldermen is well informed of the matter.

The Municipal Parking Garage in downtown Derby has aging issues.
Mr. Foley can think of only two ways to handle these issues: either privatize the garage or knock it down.
Derby’s bi-partisan Parking Authority has sent out feelers to the owners and operators of parking garages in municipalities near and far in the hope of finding a buyer.
This has been an ongoing theme of the Parking Authority, but nobody is willing to purchase the garage. If anyone knows of a buyer, please do Derby a favor and let us know who
this entity is.

I have spent my entire adult life involved in education in some form or another. Therefore, I would like to express my thoughts about education in general.
I firmly believe that it is the fundamental right of every child to receive an excellent education, whether he or she resides in a wealthy community or in a community that is more blue collar.

This May the Mayor came before the Tax Board to announce the City’s intention to switch to self-insured medical insurance. He brought in several experts on self-insurance, a representative of the insurance business itself, and the City team that put together the plan.
For your understanding, a normal insurance plan is based on premiums.

I have been honored to serve the City of Derby for the past few years. I feel that my opponent, during the election process, has misstated the operations of my administration.
The Mayor’s door is always open. The public meetings of the various Boards welcome anyone to attend and participate. My staff and administration has always been open to the public.
