Derby Mayor Anthony Staffieri celebrated a 38-vote victory over Democratic challenger Dan Foley Tuesday, but the Dems picked up several seats, especially on the Board of Aldermen.
Staffieri thanked about 100 supporters gathered at his Elizabeth Street headquarters for their “phenomenal” support.
He suggested not enough Republicans turned out at the polls.

As a well-established Derby business owner, I was serving the fine people of Derby for many, many years. Every face was familiar to me. Everyone had a story about Derby, a special connection to someone or something here. Many that I served were old friends that I had grown up with, or they knew my parents, or they went to school with my sons.

Back in February 2009, the Board of Alderman discussed and resolved to place out to referendum the City of Derby’s ability to utilize the “Connecticut City and Town Development Act”.
To this day, remains confusion as to what benefit the Act could have been to the City.

In May of 2009, Mayor Staffieri and the City Treasurer went to New York to meet with the Standard & Poor (S&P) analysts who were reviewing Derby’s bond rating.
The City of Derby, although small in size, has an impressive bond rating which has increased during the tenure of the current administration.
