It’s refreshing to hear a common campaign theme coming out of the 2011 election season.
As reflected in the April 23, 2008 Board of Aldermen minutes, we previously looked at the prospect of a 4 payment tax system. This administration extensively researched this option for our taxpayers.

With a little more than two weeks until Election Day (Nov. 8), incumbent Mayor Anthony Staffieri has raised more money than his opponent Dan Foley, Jr., according to the latest round of campaign disclosure reports.
According to filings that were due Oct. 10, Staffieri, a Republican, received $18,046 from individual contributors.
Foley, a Democrat, received $15,490.33 from individual contributors.

Many of us, including myself, ran for local government for the first time in 2005 on the basis to jump start downtown redevelopment.
When we first came into office, we met weekly with the old developer to try to determine where the project was, and where it was actually going.

Most people’s perception of how the City government deals with your money, comes from their personal experience. To most of us a budget is just a suggestion of how we should spend our money. Sure, we promise to put aside $50 every month so we aren’t short when it’s time to get those Christmas presents, but we don’t have to. We can spend that $50 on things that we need each month and that seem more important to us at that moment. When Christmas comes around, we can pull out the plastic.

In 2009, as America was at an extremely low point facing a major financial crisis, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company commissioned a survey on quality of life issues.
The results were encouraging as Americans indicated they valued quality of life issues more than their money, their careers and material possessions.
