Linda McMahon has confirmed that she will be attending the Sept. 15 “Staffieri for Mayor” fundraiser to be held at Villa Bianca, 312 Roosevelt Drive, Seymour, CT.
This event, the second of Staffieri’s fundraisers this year, will be a New England Clambake that also features roast pork.

Promising to keep Derby government “efficient, productive and low cost,” three-term incumbent Anthony Staffieri accepted the Republican endorsement for mayor Wednesday during a nominating convention in the Veterans Memorial Building on Atwater Avenue.
Staffieri said Derby has made great strides during his nearly six years in City Hall.

Democrat Dan Foley, Jr. said fighting crime and eliminating quality of life issues in Derby would be among his top priorities if residents choose him as their next mayor.
Saying Derby “has one of the highest crime rates in the area,” Foley said he would re-institute police foot patrols in Derby.
“I believe police presence in high crime areas will deter criminal activity,” he said.

The Derby tax board could not agree Tuesday on the amount of money to allocate to Derby Public Schools for the 2011 – 2012 school year.
Nine out of the 10 members of the tax board were in attendance in City Hall, where the tax board had been expected to adopt a preliminary budget for next year covering school and city services.
However, after six attempts and a long break, the tax board ended the meeting without a budget.

In the “guest column” of the Valley Sentinel, Dan Foley wrote: “Over the past five years, the mishandling of several lawsuits levied against the City of Derby has cost you, the taxpayers, millions of dollars in avoidable legal fees.”

The Valley Indy chatted with Derby Mayor Anthony Staffieri Friday about the proposed Derby school budget, which carries a 7.25 percent — or $1.28 million — increase over the current budget.
If adopted by the Derby Board of Apportionment and Taxation in its current form, the school budget would increase taxes by $275 on a property assessed at $189,000.

It’s the last line of a press release issued Friday morning by Anthony Staffieri, who has been telling the media this week that yes, he will seek another term as Derby mayor.
The sentence marks the first time Staffieri has commented publicly on the Derby Board of Education’s request for a 7.25 percent increase in funding for the school district.
