It is commendable for the Staffieri administration to once again attempt to keep taxes down, however, in its efforts to do so, we are witnessing the City of Derby follow the same harmful direction the State of Connecticut is attempting to recover from.

Mayor Staffieri and the Redevelopment Agency have worked many hours conceiving this downtown project.
There is no doubt they did their full due diligence in the selection of Eclipse.
However, Eclipse was tasked with an idea, and like any business, they are going to produce what they know they can deliver in a reasonable time.

Daniel Foley Jr, the retired Derby math and English teacher who lost a bid to unseat Derby Mayor Anthony Staffieri in 2009, announced plans to run again.
Foley, a Democrat, lost to Staffieri, a Republican, by 411 votes in November 2009.

It’s still a year until municipal election time, but Derby resident Mark Searles this week announced his plans to run for mayor in November 2011.
Searles, a 42-year-old Democrat, hasn’t received the nod from Derby’s Democratic Town Committee yet, but he says he will move forward with his plans with or without their support.
“I have such a groundswell of support,” Searles said.
