Letter: Ansonia Democrats Are Rooting For Failure

ANSONIA — It’s time to be blunt: the politicians currently running the Ansonia Democratic Party are damaging our City.

This group of political newcomers is constantly negative, advances false, contradictory arguments designed to confuse residents, and now shockingly roots for Ansonia to fail.”

Having unceremoniously booted many long-standing Democratic Town Committee members over the past two years (for not being sufficiently aggressive enough against the Mayor and his team) the Committee and his candidates have had free reign to spread misinformation intended to rip our community into shreds.

Letter Writer Opposes Ansonia Budget

by | May 30, 2023 1:32 pm | Comments (0)

As a taxpayer of this town, a neighbor, and a concerned citizen I cannot stand by and watch Team Cassetti continue with its fiscal mismanagement – and now a budget – that will harm our community.

Here are the problems that should have everyone concerned:

1. While Team Cassetti is trying to claim it’s lowering taxes, in reality taxes are increasing on nearly every multi-family property and about 38% of single-family properties. It’s a revaluation year,
and they are trying to mislead residents with the we lowered the mill rate” gimmick.

Letter Writer Takes Exception With Proposed Ansonia Budget

There is something very wrong with Team Cassetti’s proposed budget. They are claiming that it will be funded with $5M in imaginary dollars. In the budget, the line item says, Use of Future Revenue.” Seems innocent enough, right? But what is this imaginary money? The truth is: it doesn’t exist. Anticipated Revenue” is supposed to be guaranteed funds you expect in, like property tax collection or a deal that has a contract signed. That is not the case with these funds. In fact, there is not a scrap of proof that these funds — which don’t currently exist — will materialize.

Letter: A Mill Rate Cut In Ansonia Will Attract Investment

by | May 29, 2023 6:53 am | Comments (0)

A handful of Cassetti administration critics are so blinded by their political agenda that they can’t see the forest for the trees when it comes to the proposed Ansonia budget, which slashes the property tax mill rate by 11.5 mills and finally gives Ansonia an ADVANTAGE in attracting business, industrial and residential development to our city.

Letter: Ansonia CFO Twisted My Words

by | May 23, 2023 9:50 am | Comments (0)

Ansonia CFO Kurt Miller’s response to my 2024 budget review is typical of the current administration’s tactics. I was initially excited and hoped to read an intelligent and informative letter. Instead of informing and educating, he continues to beat around the bush, deflect and attack when issues are brought to the table.

Letter: Adjusted Seymour Budgets Are Reasonable, Should Be Approved

by | May 15, 2023 9:59 am | Comments (0)

Last week, I attended the Seymour Board of Finance (BOF) meeting, at which time the BOF reviewed the results of the failed referendum vote on May 4 for the Town budget and Board of Education (BOE) budget and made reductions in both budgets.

The Valley Indy stated in their article about that meeting that I stated that the budget put forth last week angered voters because the tax increase was too much to ask.”

I would like to add the rest of the statement that I made to the BOF, to show the full context.

Letter: Derby Democrats Are Playing Politics

You know Joe, I remember the sweetness by you & your Daughter to me when I attended the Open House Orientation at Derby High.

Also, I know many elected officials, having served 5 Yrs. in community Clubs. I’ve never known them to become so inflamed as in their manner/tone at the City Meetings. One member is Jen D., the most calm, reasonable & sweet person. But, she is unrecognizable at Budget Meetings. I don’t know if I could weather being her target to keep composure and focus.

Letter Writer Says Derby Administration Demeans People

by | May 9, 2023 10:04 pm | Comments (0)

Since my announcement to run for Mayor, I have tried hard to stay in my lane, focus on my own campaign and not comment on the current administration’s positions, mailings, behaviors, etc. However, after listening to the demeaning, condescending and sometimes belittling tone the Mayor and some of his staff used towards elected officials, mainly women elected officials during the last few meetings, I feel compelled to share my thoughts.

Letter: Proposed Ansonia Budget Is Smoke And Mirrors

1) A budget is a tool to guide management to monitor revenues and to ensure spending does not exceed their targets. In private industry, the end goal is to realize a profit to reward shareholders and employees. This also builds a solid cash fund to grow the business for future years. In municipal government the end goal is to establish a small surplus and also build a cash fund.
