The Valley Indy received a message from Derby Public Works Director Ron Culmo Sunday night about storm clean-up.
Derby DPW will start removing fallen trees and branches starting today (Monday, Aug. 29). The clean-up is expected to take weeks.
Trees that fell on roads will be dealt with first.

Joseph Belus, a 90-year-old Shelton resident, stuck out the worst of Hurricane Irene in his Isinglass Road home alone, without power or telephone service.
He lost power Saturday night, and found it still off Sunday morning, when he awoke in his home.
“When I woke up it was dark. The lights were out,” Belus said.
That’s when Belus decided he needed to get some help.
He got it, and by Sunday afternoon, Belus was one of a handful of people who had taken advantage of an emergency shelter set up at Shelton High School for the storm.

Ansonia, Seymour and Oxford dealt with flooding, downed trees, power outages and a fire during Hurricane Irene Sunday.
Emergency officials said the damage could have been worse if Hurricane Irene hadn’t been downgraded to a tropical storm.

As the Valley cleans up from Hurricane Irene damage, thousands of residents remained without power Sunday evening.
The hardest hit towns for power outages were Seymour and Oxford, where about 80 percent of each town was in the dark Sunday evening.
