Shelton Aldermen on Thursday passed a $120.7 million budget for 2015 – 2016 that will result in an unchanged tax rate for the third straight year.
And for the third year running, school officials said the dollar amount allocated to the city’s school district falls well short of what they need.

Frustrated by the annual fight to get the schools more money, Superintendent Freeman Burr announced he will resign Jan. 1, 2016 after six years at the helm of Shelton’s public education system.
“Deep down, I loathe the notion of going through another budget season like this one,” Burr said.

The City of Shelton’s Board of Aldermen held a public hearing May 12 on a proposed budget for 2015 – 2016.
About 100 people attended the meeting and more than a dozen people spoke.

About 100 people showed up to a public hearing on Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti’s budget proposal Tuesday, and the vast majority of those who spoke asked Aldermen to give the school district more money than the mayor had proposed.

The Shelton Board of Education will be holding a Public Information Night at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28 in the auditorium at Shelton Intermediate School.
The address is 675 Constitution Blvd. North.
In this meeting we will be explaining our budget request, and discuss the likely impact if we need to run the district at less than a maintenance or roll over budget.
