SEYMOUR– Most families today have more than enough to care for during daily life. When a death in the family occurs- whether expected or sudden- often, surviving family members are left to deal with the plethora of arrangements and decisions surrounding their loved one’s funeral service.
There are so many decisions to be made, and often family members are scattered living outside the area. Would mom want a wake; dad to be cremated? What about choices of caskets and types of services.

The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) reminds everyone that Thursday, May 1, 2025 is the National Day of Prayer.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May inviting every one of all faiths to pray for our nation. The president is required by law to sign a proclamation each year encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. It is fitting that we, in 2025, take a day to meditate and pray for peace in our dealings with others remembering that we are all brothers and sisters and are truly instruments of peace.

Ansonia settled a lawsuit with Benchmark Municipal Tax Services Ltd. on April 23.
ANSONIA – Ansonia’s government agreed to pay $615,000 to a debt collection agency who accused the city of selling them defective debts.
In a settlement agreement dated April 23, Benchmark Municipal Tax Services agreed to drop a lawsuit it had filed against the city in March. The agreement does not assign fault to either party.
Ansonia Corporation Counsel John Marini told The Valley Indy via email that the settlement will not have a major financial impact on the city. He said the agreement is for much less money than Benchmark had originally demanded.
“The settlement is very straightforward and – importantly – presents no financial hardship to the city,” Marini wrote.

ANSONIA – Ansonia police released a minute-long video showing the moment a crowd surrounded a police cruiser and broke its windshield on April 26.
In the footage, which police released Monday (April 28), dozens of masked people – carrying phones, which appear to be recording – walk toward the car as it’s backing up. One person jumps on the hood, then jumps back off. Fireworks erupt in the background. The police car hits another vehicle as it’s backing up, then stops.
Then, after the car stops, one person picks up a traffic cone. The person slams into the windshield, cracking it. Most of the people then turn and run away from the car.
You can watch the video above. The first half has no audio.
