2016 Valley Memorial Day Parade Info

FILEMonday, May 30 is Memorial Day.

Towns and cities in the lower Naugatuck Valley will be honoring the memory of people who died while serving the U.S. in the military.

There events scheduled for both Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30.

Not all towns send out info about the parades and supplemental info, such as parking bans.

We post everything we can find, and we will update the list below if and when more information is received.

SEYMOUR PARADE
11 a.m.
Parade starts at French Memorial Park, located at the intersection of Route 67 and Spruce Street. Route follows Route 67 to downtown, then turns left onto Main Street and proceed to Broad Street, across the Broad Street bridge, and end at the Community Center at 20 Pine St.

ANSONIA PARADE
2 p.m.

Parade starts at Nolan Field (350 Wakelee Ave.), proceeds down Wakelee Avenue to Jackson Street, then over the Maple Street bridge and then down Main Street, ending at the intersection of Main and West Main streets.

The parade will stop in front of City Hall — 253 Main St. — for a brief ceremony.

Ansonia police said in a Facebook post that officers will be putting out No Parking” reminders on vehicles parked along the parade route. Police asked residents to remove vehicles from the parade route by 11 a.m. Sunday. Any vehicles not removed by 11 am. will be towed from the parade route.

Roads in the area of the parade route will be blocked off by 1 p.m. to allow time to make the parade route safe from traffic, police said. They will reopen about 4 p.m., after the end of the parade.

DERBY-SHELTON MEMORIAL SERVICE
7:30 p.m.
Derby High School
Nutmeg Avenue

This solemn service is held to honor those who gave the supreme sacrifice in defense of our country. It also honors all veterans who have passed away in the last year, since April 30, 2015, who were residents of either the City of Derby or the City of Shelton.

Family members of those recently deceased veterans will be presented with a flower of remembrance when their name is announced. Invitations have been sent to family members by the Parade Association.

DERBY-SHELTON PARADE
9 a.m.

Begins on Howe Avenue near Wharf Street, right onto Kneen Street, then right onto Coram Avenue to White Street, then right onto Howe Avenue, left onto Bridge Street over the Derby-Shelton bridge, right onto Main Street, left onto Elizabeth Street, ends at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Cottage Avenue.

In Shelton there will be parking ban along the parade route beginning at 6 a.m. which will stay in effect until the parade is over, around noon. The roads will be closed at 8:30 a.m.

OXFORD PARADE
10:30 a.m.

Starts at the Little River Shopping Center near the intersection of Route 67 and Echo Valley Road and proceeds to Town Hall, 486 Oxford Road. There will also be a flyover about 11:30 a.m.
