Ansonia GOP Makes Sudden Pick For Mayor

In a meeting closed to reporters, the Ansonia Republican Town Committee nominated Judy Larkin-Nicolari to run against Democratic incumbent Mayor James T. Della Volpe.

The Valley Independent Sentinel covered six political caucuses this week. The Ansonia Republicans were the only group to make their nominations in private.

After a twenty-minute wait near the stairs of the community room at the Division Street Stop & Shop, the press was allowed in for the candidate to make a statement.

Larkin-Nicolari, a Realtor, said she was honored that the Town Committee had chosen her and that she plans to put her heart and soul into the campaign.”

The reason I am running is that people should have a choice,” said Larkin-Nicolari, a past president of the city’s Rotary Club. We have a two party system and it needs to be represented in the town.”

Her nomination was apparently a last-minute decision. Two hours prior to the caucus, Republican Chairwoman Joan Radin said there was no mayoral candidate.

The other nominations by the Republican Town Committee were as follows:

The Ansonia Republican candidate for Aldermen for First Ward are Randolph Karrol and Patricia J. Fers. Third Ward is John Marini and 5th Ward Joan P. Radin and 6th Ward is Patrick Henri.

Board of Education candidate is Nancy M. Monaco and candidate for City Sheriff is Robert Davis.
