NOTE: State Rep. Theresa Conroy issued the following press release Thursday.
State Representative Theresa Conroy (D‑Ansonia, Beacon Falls and Seymour) announced that she has voluntarily offered to take a number of unpaid furlough days help address Connecticut’s budget deficit.
“This may seem inconsequential when facing a budget deficit in the billions, but I believe it is important that we all share the pain and work together in these tough times,” said Rep. Conroy. “It would be the height of hypocrisy if I was not willing to make the same sacrifices that we asked of our unionized state employees and legislative staff.”
State employees agreed to take seven furlough days in exchange for no layoffs.
Rep. Conroy will give up nine days of her $28,000 legislative salary over the next two years.
Representative Conroy noted that she has no plans to take off from her legislative responsibilities. “I plan on representing my district everyday – it’s not as though I’m planning on skipping committee meetings or not answering constituent calls for four days this year.”
She added, “It just isn’t right to ask folks to do something without doing it myself. All of us in Connecticut need to step up and make some small sacrifices.”
Representative Theresa Conroy is serving her first term representing most of Beacon Falls, Seymour and part of Ansonia in the 105th District.
Rep. Conroy sits on the legislature’s Environment Committee, Public Health Committee, and Select Committee on Veteran’s Affairs.
