Derby-Shelton Memorial Day Parade Is Monday, May 29, 2023

DERBY-SHELTON — You are hereby notified that Derby Shelton Memorial Day Parade Association President Joel Hurliman and Parade Chair James Chic” Tortora have announced that the annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday May 29, 2023, beginning at 9 a.m., rain or shine, at the intersection of Wharf Street and Howe Avenue in Shelton and finishing in Derby.

Please find attached the Parade Orders and Parade Line Up as finalized by the Parade Committee. The parade line up will be on Howe Avenue, Shelton from Center Street to Wharf Street. Please see attached documents for details.

There will be a Military Flyover at approximately 9:30 am during the Parade. There will also be a ceremonial wreath ceremony on the Derby Shelton Bridge when the Honor Division and Veterans Division reach the bridge.

The Reviewing Stand will be at the Center of the Derby Green on Elizabeth Street in Derby.

This year’s parade features the following fabulous bands – Shelton High School Marching Band, Mattatuck Drum Band, Connecticut Hurricanes, Bradley School (Derby) Marching Band, Derby High/Middle School combined Marching Band and Cheer Team, Shelton Intermediate School Marching Band, Rich Bobinski Orchestra, King-Robinson Magnet School Band.

Also, you may also bring old flags that need to be retired. The St. Michael Post 1562 Catholic War Veterans will be collecting them along the parade route so that they may be properly retired at a ceremony they will conduct after the parade at their headquarters in Derby.

The approximately 1.5‑mile parade route is as follows:

Starts in Shelton at Wharf Street and Howe Avenue (End of Exit 14 South from Route 8)

March south. Take Right onto Kneen Street.

Take Right onto Coram Avenue – Teke Right onto White Street – Take Right onto Howe Avenue

Take Left at Derby-Shelton Bridge – Proceed to Derby

Take Right onto Main Street – Take Left onto Elizabeht Street

Parade ends at intersection of Elizabeth Street and Cottage Street

2023 DERBY-SHELTON MEMORIAL DAY PARADE ORDERS 

Hello Everyone,

As you all know, the parade is starting in Shelton this year and will be stepping off promptly at 9:00 am (Rain or Shine). The theme for the parade is LEST WE FORGET” 

NOTE: THERE IS NO LINE-UP OR DIVISIONS ON CANAL STREET

Units should arrive between 7:30 am and 8:15 am
Drop off for marchers and parking will be in the MUNICIPAL LOT which is

located behind the FARMER’S MARKET on Canal St.
Remember — Howe Avenue will be blocked off From Center Street to Wharf 

St at approximately 7:30 am.

Buses/Marchers/Vehicles

Buses dropping of Marchers are to enter from Rt 8 exit 14 North or
South. Go south on Howe Ave, turn left onto Park St, turn right on to Myrtle Ave and follow that around to Canal Street and Dropping off at Canal St at the Farmer’s Market.
Drop off Marchers, THEN exit lot and return south on Canal Street, continue onto Riverdale to Myrtle. This will put you back onto Howe Ave. Take Howe Ave south to route 8 north. 

Take Rt 8 North to Exit 15. Go left onto Main and then right onto Water Street and proceed to the intersection of Caroline and Elizabeth (Derby Public Library) to pick up your marchers. 

Marchers/Vehicles may enter the line-up via the same route as buses. Vehicles in the parade and marchers only may also enter the line-up from Howe Avenue via Center Street. There is no drop-off within the division line-up areas. 

THIS YEAR THE PARADE LINE-UP STARTS WITH THE HONOR 

DIVISION at HOWE AVE and WHARF ST/ROUTEEXIT 14 RAMPALL 

OTHER DIVISIONS WILL LINE UP BEHIND THE HONOR DIVISION IN A 

NORTHERLY DIRECTION ON HOWE AVENUE (towards Center St.) 

Floats That are to be Judged are to be in place by 7:30 am 

All vehicles (antiques, fire apparatus, floats ETC.) entered in parade, will enter from Howe and Center Street and proceed south to
your designated division. AFTER 7:30 AM DO NOT PROCEED TO YOUR DIVISION NORTH ON HOWE AVENUE FROM WHARF STREET

The parade ends in Derby at the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Cottage Street. Your marchers will proceed north toward the library to meet up with your rides.
