Original post from Saturday evening follows:
With rain expected throughout Saturday and Sunday, Shelton Police Chief Joel Hurliman said residents of low-lying riverside areas like the Maples area of Shelton should keep an eye on conditions and move their vehicles to higher ground if possible.
“The Stevenson dam flow gauge is already in the ‘action’ phase,” Hurliman pointed out about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. “The earlier prediction was it was going to be some flooding some time either very late tonight or early this morning. I think it’s going to pass the prediction.”
The river was at about 8 feet as of 5 p.m. Saturday. The flood level is 11 feet.
According to the National Weather Service, it is expected to reach a level of 11.7 feet Monday.
The chief said he put out a localized Code Red message to residents of the area alerting them to possible flooding.
“Residents should be aware of what’s going on, watch the forecast, watch the river level forecast, and of course watch the actual conditions,” Hurliman said, advising those who can move their vehicles to higher ground to do so.
The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the area from 8 p.m. Saturday through late Sunday night.
