Monday, March 25, 1929

Ex-Alderman Bristol Has Operation in Hilo, Hawaii
ANSONIA — Ex-alderman Theodore Bristol who left early in the year on a vacation trip to the Hawaiian Islands, underwent an operation for appendicitis at the hospital in Hilo. The operation, which is reported to have been quite a serious one, was successful and Mr. Bristol is on the road to a complete recovery.

Car Stolen, Thief Eludes Officers
DERBY — A Chevrolet couple belonging to Edward Reid of Shelton while parked on Olivia Street yesterday was stolen. The police notified nearby towns and some hours later a car answering the description was seen going through Stratford. The Stratford police gave chase and the driver leaped out of the car and disappeared into the nearby woods. The machine was returned to the owner.

C.W.A. Madison To Speak
SEYMOUR — At the weekly meeting of the Seymour Rotary Club at tomorrow noon at the Congregational Church dining rooms, the speaker will be Charles W. A. Madison of the Seymour Electrical Store. Mr. Madison has recently returned from a trip to the south and he has much of interest to relate to the Rotatarians.

Pioneers To Meet
ANSONIA — There will be a meeting of the Pioneer A.C. in the clubrooms at 8 o’clock this evening. The club has important matters to attend and the chairman desires a large attendance.

Birthday Party
DERBY — Little Miss Mildred Moore of Housatonic Avenue was given a pleasant surprise Saturday afternoon when a number of little playmates called at her home to help her celebrate her birthday. The little hostess received a number of gifts. The guests enjoyed the afternoon with games and music. A light luncheon was served and each guest received a little Easter toy.

Wednesday, March 27, 1929

Flowers For Easter
ANSONIA — The Public Fruit and Vegetable Store, located at 46 Bridge Street has received a shipment of Easter lilies and potted plants of all kinds and is now ready for the holiday trade. These flowers are being displayed at the establishment and the proprietor is expecting a large patronage.

New Traffic Signal
ANSONIA — A traffic caution signal has been installed at the west end of the Bridge Street bridge and was placed into operation today. The device, which is of the flicker variety, is embedded in cement. Keep to the Right’ signs will be added later, it is stated.

Becomes Auto Salesman
ANSONIA — John Nugent of Church Street, well known tenor vocalist who recently underwent an operation at the Grace Hospital, recently accepted a position as a salesman for the Graham-Paige motors. Mr. Nugent who has made much experience with cars and is well and favorably known in the city is expected to popularize the Graham-Paige among local motor fanciers.

Sails for Sydney, Australia
DERBY — Henry M. Bradley, Jr., probably Derby’s most traveled residents at the present time, who some time ago announced his intentions to visit the Antipodes, already has part of his long voyage on the other side of the world planned out. Mr. Bradley says that he will, if all goes well, sail from San Francisco Jan. 14 next on one of the Matson liners for Sydney, Australia, after first spending some time with friends in California.

The Last Supper
ANSONIA — A hand carved reproduction of Davinci’s painting The Last Supper” is being displayed in one of the windows of Seccombe’s Men’s Shop on Main Street. It is a very valuable and artistic work and is cut out on a mother-of-pearl shell which was taken from one of the seas of the Orient.

Offices To Close
DERBY — Offices in the City Hall will be closed all day tomorrow, Good Friday. Likewise the banks of the city will be closed as well as the Derby Public Library. The stores will remain open as usual.

Flowers For Altar
SEYMOUR — Members of St. Augustine’s Parish who care to donate potted plants or cut flowers for the altars on Easter Sunday are asked to send them to the church before 2:30 on Saturday afternoon.

Friday, March 29, 1929

Fails To Get Bond, Goes To New Haven Jail
DERBY — Inability to get someone to furnish bonds of $2,000 caused Joseph Sturgeon of Caroline Street, charged with a statutory offense and held for the higher court, to be removed to the New Haven jail yesterday afternoon, where he will probably await trial unless some of his friends come to his assistance. 

Good Friday Service At First Church This Evening
DERBY — At the special Good Friday service at the First Congregational Church this evening there will be Holy Communion and an appropriate sermon by Pastor Rev. Worthy Maylott and a special musical program rendered by the chorus choir.
