The Great Give is used as our only reader drive. Donations are tax-deductible.
We could reach the goal if nine people donated $100 each.
We realize that is a tall order, but the Valley Indy is a FREE publication.
A $100 donation breaks out to $8 month to support a local news organization that:
- Launched a news talk podcast/radio show (with a sports history show currently in production)
- Launched a 4‑page newsletter (thanks to Ever Ready Press of Ansonia) targeting seniors in Ansonia and Derby who do not use the web for news. We report, layout, and deliver the newsletter ourselves.
- Won first place awards last year for investigative and in-depth stories from the state’s Society of Professional Journalists.
- Hosts a Facebook page that serves as the Valley’s most active online discussion board.
- Organized political debates in Ansonia and Seymour.
- Organized the first mayoral debate in Derby in years for our “Valley Navel Gazing” talk show.
The Great Give started Tuesday morning. The deadline for the event was initially Wednesday night, but was extended to 12 p.m. Thursday.
As of 7 a.m. Thursday more than $1 million had been raised for nonprofits in the Valley and greater New Haven.
The Valley Indy hosted a “Great Give Webcast” from 8 a.m. Tuesday until 2 a.m. Wednesday. The streaming video show continued from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
(The reporters took a few hours off to sleep due to tech problems Tuesday).
