Letter: Thanks For Participating In Democracy

I would like to personally thank all the residents who voted in this year’s municipal elections. It doesn’t matter your beliefs, who you voted for, or why you voted for them, what matters is you exercised your right to vote. For that, I thank you.

I would also like to thank all the candidates, those who won and those who unfortunately lost, for participating in something bigger than themselves. Although we all may not see eye-to-eye on every topic or issue, the desire to serve your community within a governmental position is very noble. To all the candidates that ran, I wholeheartedly thank you for being part of the democratic process, as well as stepping up to serve our amazing community.

Democracy is truly an amazing thing, as American citizens we have the power to choose our governing legislation. It makes me so incredibly happy to see diversity within our city’s boards, which will inevitably spark more discussion and better representation of the residents of Ansonia.

Ansonia means the world to me. I love my community and I love where I come from. As members of this great community, we will continue to fight for what is right and just, not for some, but for all residents of the city. Thank you once again for participating in the democratic process this municipal election, it is a right and privilege that should not be taken lightly.

The writer is from Ansonia and is currently serving in the military.
