Miller Makes It Official

W. Kurt Miller made his intentions to seek the Republican nomination to run for First Selectman official Tuesday.

Miller made his formal announcement speech to a gathering at the Explorers Learning Center in the town’s Silvermine industrial park. Click the video to see a portion of his remarks.

Miller, a Republican, hopes to get his party’s nod to challenge incumbent First Selectman Paul Roy.

We need a leader that understands this town’s roots, its people, and its potential,” Miller told the crowd.

Miller first made it public that he was interested in running in an article in the Valley Independent Sentinel on Jan. 21.

Miller is 41 and works as an Account Relationship Manager for CUNA Mutual Group, as well as a Funeral Director for Miller-Ward Funeral Home.

He is a former chairman of the Board of Finance and is now a member of the Board of Selectmen.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Southern Connecticut State University and an associate’s degree in mortuary science from Briarwood College.

He was the captain of the very first soccer team at Seymour High School, where he graduated in 1988.

I feel the need to give something back to Seymour because Seymour has given so much to me,” he told the crowd.
