Al Meadows, a member of the Derby/Shelton AMVETS and the creator of Operation Gift Cards, presented a certificate of appreciation to the Valley Independent Sentinel this month for publishing submitted articles about Operation Gift Cards.
The organization gives gift cards and gifts to wounded troops returning from combat.
Al Meadows often sends updates to the Valley Independent about fundraising efforts and returning troops.
The certificate reads: This certificate is awarded to you in grateful recognition of your support for Operation Gift Cards, which presents our wounded troops with thank you kits and gift certificates for their military store, and delivers “wish list” items to several locations at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for them and their families. Your support is not only appreciated by the officers and members of this post and chapter, but more importantly by the brave men and women who have been wounded or injured while serving in our Armed Forces and their families.
