Route 34 over the Stevenson Dam between Monroe and Oxford will be closed in both directions from June 27 to July 1, according to the FirstLight Hydro Generating Co., the dam’s owner.
It’s being closed so maintenance work can be done on the dam’s “tainter gates,” which control water flow.
The closure begins 6 a.m. Saturday, June 27, and will end midnight Wednesday, July 1.
Motorists who travel east or west on Route 34 between Oxford and Monroe should plan alternate routes.
“In an effort to minimize the impact to the public, most of the work will be done throughout the weekend,” FirstLight said in a press release.
Traffic will be detoured along Route 111, Route 110, and Bridge Street in the City of Shelton.
Long-distance traffic is advised to take Route 8 and Interstate 84 to avoid the Stevenson Dam.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour signs and follow the directions of the uniformed police officers.
