Seymour Democrat: Higher Taxes Are Not ‘Fun’

Contributed PhotoWhen Seymour’s First Selectman Kurt Miller accepted the Republican Party nomination to seek another term as First Selectman, he stated that he had initially indicated he was going to commit to two terms as First Selectman, but since he is having so much fun, he stated he wants to run at least one more time.

I am glad to hear that Mr. Miller is having so much fun.

It is too bad that the Seymour taxpayers are not having quite as much fun paying higher taxes.

While Mr. Miller further claimed to be getting so much stuff done,” he failed to indicate that Seymour’s taxpayers have suffered an increase in the mill rate of almost 25 percent during his less than four years in office as First Selectman.

Despite this fact, he claimed that Seymour’s taxpayers have felt little to no impact on taxes.”

Perhaps he hopes that nobody will look into the numbers and call his words into question.

There is real stuff” that still needs to be done in Seymour. It starts with lowering taxes through increased economic development and management that truly controls expenses. There are a number of great properties available for new businesses in well-traveled areas.

Any long-time Seymour resident can tell you that Route 67 is busier than it has ever been. Seymour has a tremendous amount of great antique shops and pizza places, but there is a serious demand for new and different types of businesses in town.

I hear it every weekend as I go door to door talking to our residents. People are tired of traveling to Shelton, Milford, and beyond to do shopping or get a great meal.

It starts with the First Selectman, the Board of Selectmen, and our economic developer to reach out to prospective businesses and sell them on all Seymour has to offer. It is time to keep our residents in town and we need a First Selectman who works more then four days a week to ensure that happens.

Mr. Miller and his Republican Team have failed to get the stuff” done to lower taxes.

A change in the Office of the First Selectman is needed so that Seymour’s taxpayers will be able to have more fun with their money in their pockets.

Zani Imetovski and the Democratic team is the choice for Seymour’s taxpayers.
