Seymour Man Stabbed In Ansonia

A Seymour man was stabbed early Tuesday in downtown Ansonia, according to police.

In a prepared statement issued Tuesday (April 16) morning, Lt. Andrew Cota said police were called to the area of Chaser’s Cafe on Water Street just after midnight for a report that a man had been stabbed.

Responding officers found that Elijah Stanford, 21, of Seymour, “had been stabbed several times in the rear upper torso area,” Cota said.

Stanford was uncooperative at the scene and was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for his injuries, which were not life-threatening, Cota said.

The actual scene of the stabbing was on West Main Street just north of Water Street, according to police.

“It is unclear if there was a dispute prior to the incident but people who were in the area reported hearing some sort of argument prior to the police being notified,” Cota’s statement said. “No suspects have been identified and the case is still under investigation.”

Stanford was in stable condition Tuesday, according to Cota.
