Seymour School Board Members To Host Press Conference On Budget Proposal

FILEIf you have lingering questions about the Seymour Board of Education budget proposed at $30.39 million, today (June 12) is your chance to get them answered.

Two Board of Education members will host a press conference at 5 p.m. at Seymour Town Hall, to talk about the school district’s 2012 – 2013 proposal.

The budget proposal has failed to pass three referendums, and a fourth vote is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 14.

The referendum is held from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town’s Community Center on Pine Street.

Chairman Yashu Putorti and Vice Chairman Fred Stanek plan to read a prepared statement about the budget, then take questions from the press and the public at the press conference.

The schools budget request has been trimmed each time voters reject it at referendum.

Most recently, the Board of Finance cut another $150,000 from the proposal, which still represents an increase of about 2 percent over the current budget.
