Seymour voters will head to the polls a third time on Wednesday May 30, to vote on proposed town and school budgets totaling $51.7 million.
The budget referendum will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town’s community center on Pine Street.
The budget proposals would set the town’s tax rate at 32.95 mills.
The current rate is 27.62 mills. However, town officials have recalculated the rate to 31.95 to allow residents to make a better comparison with their newly revalued properties.
So, accounting for revaluation, the tax rate is increasing 1 mill.
Voters rejected two earlier budget proposals.
The details:
Town Budget: $21,160,166
Increase: 1.87 percent
Education Budget: $30,548,026 *Increase: *2.53 percent
First Selectman Kurt Miller said last week that nearly 30 percent of the town’s property owners would see a decrease in the amount of taxes they pay under the proposal.
Miller urged residents to approve the budget in a guest column last week.
