Buildings purchased by the state on Main Street in Derby will be coming down sometime between December and March, a state transportation spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
It’s part of the Route 34 widening plan — a project that the state and the City of Derby have been planning for at least a decade.
On Thursday, Kevin Nursick, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation, sent along Google Map photos showing which buildings will be demolished.
The addresses of the buildings are as follows:
- 140 – 142 Main St.
- 134 – 136 Main St.
- 128 Main St.
- 130 Main St.
- 34 – 40 Caroline St.
- 23 Factory St.
Another building — 176 – 178 Main St. — is being used as a DOT field office and will be demolished at a later date, Nursick said.
Mayor Anita Dugatto announced the impending demolition through a press release Tuesday.
The announcement was met with some skepticism from political opponents and Valley Indy Facebook readers, but the DOT spokesman confirmed the buildings are, indeed, coming down.
The DOT plans to release the buildings to the Derby Fire Department, who will use them for a time for training.
